Windows 10 end of support: what to do?

Quick answer

Since 14 October 2025, Windows 10 no longer receives security fixes. The Extended Security Updates programme for home users ended on 13 October 2026. If your PC is compatible, upgrade to Windows 11; otherwise, keep Windows 10 for offline use only.

What changes

  • No more security fixes: new vulnerabilities are no longer patched.
  • Windows stays activated: the PC starts and your software works.
  • Recent software is gradually dropping Windows 10.

Your three options

  1. Upgrade to Windows 11

If the PC is compatible, the upgrade is done through Windows Update. Check compatibility.

  2. Keep Windows 10 offline

For business software or a machine that requires it, with no browsing or email.

  3. Replace the computer

If the PC is not compatible and is used daily on the internet.
